Columbia, Critique and Co-ops

I wasn’t aware until today that in the heat of the student occupations and oppressive responses from management and the police at Columbia University in 2024, students and staff were thinking about how to create a co-operative university. They were trying to ‘reimagine the university as a multi-stakeholder cooperative of faculty, students, staff, and community’, along the lines of what we had also tried to work through. The video below is well worth watching – very familiar at times – and Kali Akuno really speaks from experience to the crisis Columbia students and staff find themselves in. I hope it didn’t stop there.
