Harald Petersen

Harald Petersen (1910-1969) moved from Denmark to England in 1950, thinking there were more opportunities for a luthier to sell classical guitars. After a slow start, he benefited from the growing success of Len Williams’ Spanish Guitar Centre in London, which he sold his guitars through from about 1955. Peterson was the first successful self-employed maker of handmade classical guitars in Britain.

    1. Great to hear from you, Bill. I will email you with material I have about your father, in case some of it is new to you.

    2. Dear Bill, I am trying to find out more about your father and the work he did with you and your brother as a luthier. I am doing some research as I am making some artwork about the role of the individual luthier and how they work, and I have become fascinated by the story of your father moving to the UK from Denmark and the impact his guitars and musical instruments have had here. Any information, pictures or advice would be much appreciated. I work as a Professor at the Royal College of Art in London. very best, Bob Matthews
